Dec 01, 2015 · The water level rises due to expansion when the boiler is heated. If the temperature difference between the boiler and feed water exceeds approximately 50ºC, the boiler must be filled very slowly. When filling a pressure less boiler, the shut-off valve after the feed water pump must be throttled. Otherwise the pump motor will be overloaded. Check the water level in the water level gauges.

For automatically controlled steam boilers, national standards usually call for two independent low level alarms, to ensure safety.
Get a QuoteIn the early 1900s as boiler codes and rules were being established, it was decided that a high pressure boiler would be 15 PSI and above, with anything lower being defined as a low pressure boiler. The industry has maintained this standard for over a hundred years and boiler regulations and standards have been built around it.

Get a QuoteAs it does so, the water surface area (steam release area) will decrease because, as the water level is above the centre line of the boiler, the sides of the containing shell converge. The boilermaker will have designed the boiler to ensure that the area of the normal water level (NWL) is such that steam will be released at an acceptable velocity.
